MS International Federation’s very prestigious Charcot Award has been won by Professor John Prineas.
The Award recognizes a life-time of outstanding contribution to MS research, Professor Prineas having been at the forefront of neuropathology in MS. His recent findings of sick and dying cells in the early stages of MS, prior to the autoimmune response, have revolutionized the world-wide understanding of the disease, providing hope for new therapies which include the potential to repair the neural damage.
Professor Prineas is the first Australian to win this prestigious Award and is the recipient of a Project Grant in the Trish Foundation’s current round of funding. Our research funds are certainly in very capable hands!
Another Milestone Reached by the Trish Foundation The Trish Foundation has now raised over $1.7 million dollars for research to pursue the cure or preventive strategy for multiple sclerosis.
THANK YOU to each and every company, person and organisation who has contributed to this milestone, and particularly the Foundation's sincere appreciation to our major Corporate Sponsor, Symbion Laverty Pathology.

Tania
Beck’s wonderful ongoing support in conducting a Barefoot Bowling and Trivia
Night at Waverton Bowling Club on 25th October 2008 resulted in over $10,000
being raised for the Trish Foundation’s research.
Tania did a tremendous job in organizing the successful fundraiser on behalf of the Foundation, 120 people enjoying a balmy Spring afternoon on the Bowling Green and 160 people challenging their memories and having fun during the Trivia Night.
The Foundation’s sensational supporters again ‘dug deep’ and generously supported the fundraiser, the amount raised giving our funds for research a great boost.
Bill Gilbert was Trivia Master, again generously giving his time and professional skills in performing this important duty and ensuring the Foundation’s supporters enjoyed the evening.
In a very close contest, MS Research Australia’s table won the Trivia, capably led by Executive Director Jeremy Wright and Trivia buff Sarah Ross-Smith. They subsequently donated their prize back to the Foundation; it was auctioned and raised further funds for research.
The moving video which was produced pro bono again this year by DMC Digital gave a graphic account of the challenges of living with MS, no doubt contributing to the generosity of the Foundation’s wonderful supporters.
Thank you very much to Tania Beck, Bill Gilbert, Jay Lee Waverton Bowling Club, DMC Digital, all the generous donors who contributed to the funds raised for MS research and the Foundation’s wonderful supporters who generously supported the special fundraiser.

The amazing champion of people with MS, Ian Ballard, passed away on 15th October. Ian founded Foundation 5 million - people with MS raising funds to find the cure and made an extraordinary contribution to the Trish Foundation in very many ways.

Ian will continue to inspire the drive for the cure for MS.
The Foundation's deepest sympathy is extended to Katie, Sam, Josh and Melanie.

“My family have been telling me to get fit and to get my running shoes back on!” said Alan Wheat. “So, I rose to the challenge and ran in the 2008 Sydney Marathon on Sunday 21st September after setting myself two goals – To finish and to raise $5000 for the Trish Multiple Sclerosis Research Foundation.”
Alan raised $6,000 running the London Marathon in 2003 for his brother-in-law Alex Berry, who at the time was suffering from MS.
“In 2005, Alex’s family including his wife and two daughters lost a husband, father, son, brother to MS,” Alan said. “It’s in Alex’s memory that Fee and I continue to raise funds for the Trish Foundation in the pursuit of a cure for MS.”
Donations came in abundance for Alan’s mammoth effort, enabling him to exceed his goal of raising $5,000 for the Trish Foundation’s research.
“The thought of running 42kms (26 miles 385 yards) for such a worthwhile cause, really did help me to the finish line,” Alan said.
Alan’s fundraising page is still active, inviting generous donors to support his inspiring run - http://www.gofundraise.com.au/2008SydneyMarathonAlanWheat
Thank you to Alan Wheat, Fiona Berry and all the generous people who have made donations, considerably boosting the Foundation’s funds for research.
