The Trish Foundation’s “Sports of All Sorts” Gala Charity Ball
saw sporting stars from athletics, tennis, rugby league, cricket, water polo,
basketball and golf get together on a magical night of fun and goodwill.
Following the success of the Ball, the Foundation has raised over $1 million for
research to pursue the cure or preventive strategy for multiple sclerosis.
The “Sports of All Sorts” Gala Charity Ball was supported by
champions in their field and the shining star of the evening was inspirational
Guest of Honour Betty Cuthbert AM, who travelled from Perth especially for the
evening. The highlight of the evening was the inspiring and moving Testimonial
given to Betty by Alan Jones AO, Radio 2GB, celebrating Betty’s brilliant career
and the prolonged standing ovation which followed.
Hon Brendan Nelson and Barry O’Farrell, both of whom have
significantly supported the Foundation since inception, attended the Ball. Dr.
Nelson gave a memorable speech, emphasizing hope for people with MS and
delivering a message from the Prime Minister which said, in part, “Your
organisation, in association with Multiple Sclerosis Australia and MS Research
Australia, makes a vital contribution towards multiple sclerosis research. It is
the dedication and innovative approaches of organisations such as yours that can
make a significant difference to the lives of people affected by multiple
sclerosis.”
With Master of Ceremonies Greg Clark, Fox Sports Rugby
Commentator at the helm, the Trish Foundation’s Auctioneer Craig Marshall,
Century 21 Cordeaux Marshall in full flight and DMC Digital’s touching video
contributing considerably, the Ball was a roaring success.
The Ball was also supported by sporting greats Ken Rosewall
(tennis), Wayne Pearce (rugby league), Jane Flemming (athletics), John Alexander
(tennis), Debbie Watson (water polo), Brett Ogle (golf), Phil Blake (rugby
league), Damian Keogh (basketball) and Brendon Julian (cricket). All gave
generously of their time hosting tables, the Foundation’s guests having bid in
an online auction for the privilege of sharing their company for the evening.
The Ball also celebrated the 50th anniversary of the
establishment of the MS Society in New South Wales and was a significant event
for the MS Community.
Professor Peter Russell, a member of the Trish Foundation’s
Scientific Research Committee said, “We reached the $1m mark during the evening.
Can you imagine what that has meant to MS researchers throughout our Australian
universities?”

The Trish Foundation and those with MS would like to say an
enormous thank you to our Guest of Honour Betty Cuthbert, Alan Jones, Dr.
Brendan Nelson, Barry O’Farrell, MC Greg Clark, Auctioneer Craig Marshall, DMC
Digital, Ken Rosewall, Wayne Pearce, Jane Flemming, John Alexander, Debbie
Watson, Brett Ogle, Phil Blake, Damian Keogh, Brendon Julian, the Foundation’s
major Corporate Sponsor Symbion Laverty Pathology, Flashback, our major
sponsors, each and every person who attended the Ball and supported the Trish
Foundation so generously and the many companies, people and organisations who
made generous donations.
