Walk for Life was an
inspirational journey undertaken by Demetrios to raise funds for multiple
sclerosis research and also immeasurable awareness of this disease.
‘Walk for Life’ was
given a huge kick-start on Friday 27th May when Demetrios’ wife Laura organised
the sensational Taverna Charity Night. Read more.
Demetrios, who had
spent months preparing and planning his mammoth mission, was given a rousing
send-off by the Forster Tuncurry Community, led by Great Lakes Councillor John
Stephens and Trish Langsford's aunt, Anne Langsford.
“A ten year dream became reality in memory of my
first and late wife Georgia and the late Trish Langsford,” Demetrios
Livissianis said.
“I am driven to have a
part in finding the cure for MS; this is the reason why all the money I raise
from Walk for Life will go to medical research.”
“The journey from Forster to Sydney of 327
kilometres was a journey that created huge awareness of this debilitating
disease. I met the most generous people
who provided their hospitality and their donations.”
The Grand Finalé of
Walk for Life occurred at the Foundation’s Magical Mystery Ball when Demetrios was
welcomed into the Ballroom to a well-deserved standing ovation, following which
Demetrios was interviewed by MC Mark Beretta.
Demetrios and his wife Laura presented a cheque for $37,000 to Foundation
Chairman Carol Langsford.
“The contribution of Demetrios and his wife Laura
is a true inspiration,” said Foundation Chairman Carol Langsford. “Walking from Forster to Sydney is a very,
very long way and we are really grateful.
The significant funds they have raised is a great boost to our funds for
research. We also thank most sincerely
the many generous sponsors and supporters of Walk for Life.”
